Welcome to Sewmakers Hub! This document explains how things work here — what you're paying for, what we expect from each other, and what you can expect from us. We've tried to keep it simple and fair. If anything's unclear, just ask.
1. What Your Pass Covers
We offer several pass options depending on how you work:
- Daily Pass — one full day of shared workspace access
- Weekly Access — seven consecutive calendar days
- Flexi Plan — any 10 days within a 30-day window, used whenever suits you
- Monthly Studio — one full calendar month of shared access
- Weekly Reserve / Monthly Resident — dedicated private workspace (limited availability)
Whichever pass you're on, here's what your access includes:
- Industrial sewing machines
- Industrial serger (overlock machine)
- Cutting table
- Ironing station
- Mannequins and body forms
- A general area to take pictures of your work
That's the core of what your pass pays for. A few extra tools come at an additional cost — more on that below.
Flexi Plan note: your 10 days must be used within your 30-day window. Unused days at the end of the window don't carry over to the next period.
2. Booking & Getting In
- We run bookings through WhatsApp or Instagram — confirm your slot there before coming in.
- Try to arrive within your booked time. Running late? Just send us a quick message so we can work around it.
- Once your booking is confirmed, that's your access — no separate check-in process. Just walk in and get started.
- Your pass is for you, and you alone. Please don't send someone else to use your time on your behalf.
3. Extra Tools, Extra Cost
A few tools sit outside the standard pass and come with their own charge:
- Stoning machine
- Dedicated photo area with lighting setup
- Specialty machine feet
- Rivet machine
Ask a staff member what these currently cost before you use them — and please settle that before, not after.
4. Using the Equipment
- First time on a machine? A staff member will check in with you to make sure you have what you need and aren't facing any issues — don't guess if something's unclear.
- Use each machine for what it's built for. Please don't force fabric, attachments, or settings it wasn't designed to handle.
- Machine acting up? Stop, and tell a staff member. Don't try to fix it yourself.
- Switch off any machine you're not actively using.
5. Ironing Station — Power Usage
We run primarily on a mix of grid power and inverter, with a backup generator for when both are down. This affects what irons are safe to use at any given time.
- On grid power, higher-rated irons are fine to use as normal.
- On inverter power, please stick to 700-watt irons or below. This protects our inverter from overload and unnecessary wear.
Staff will let you know which power source we're on and which iron to use when you arrive — but if you're ever unsure, just ask before plugging in.
Using a higher-wattage iron than allowed while we're on inverter power will attract a fine. The amount depends on the situation — for instance, whether it caused strain or damage — and we'll always explain it clearly if it comes up.
6. Taking Care of the Space
Our staff handle cleaning and reset the space at the end of each day — machines, tables, and floors. You're welcome to tidy up after yourself if you'd like, but it's not required.
A few things we do ask:
- Put back anything you borrowed (scissors, rulers, pins) where you found it.
- Bin your thread waste and fabric scraps rather than leaving them on a machine.
7. The Studio Vibe
- It's a shared space, so a bit of noise is normal — just be considerate of others trying to focus.
- Keep calls short, or step outside for longer ones.
- Chat, network, connect — that's part of what makes this place work. Just read the room when someone's clearly deep in their work.
8. Respecting Each Other
- Treat everyone here — members, staff, guests — with respect.
- Disrespect, harassment, or disruptive behaviour won't be tolerated.
- Collaboration? Always welcome. Poaching another member's client while you're here? Not okay.
- Want to show off your work? We've got a space for that. Whatever you display stays your intellectual property, and everyone's expected to respect that.
9. Photos, Videos & Promotion
- From time to time, we may want to take photos or videos of members and their work to promote Sewmakers Hub — Instagram, flyers, our website, etc. We'll always ask first. Nothing of you or your work gets used unless you've clearly said yes, in the moment.
- We may also occasionally want to feature a member's work or brand more directly — a spotlight, a shoutout, a "member of the month" type feature. As with everything else here, we'll always ask before doing this, and you're free to say no.
- Not feeling it? No problem at all — just let us know.
- If you're taking your own photos or videos in the space, please don't include other members without their permission, and don't misrepresent our branding.
- If you create content that features the studio positively, we'd love to reshare it — just tag us.
10. Storage (For Now)
- We don't have a formal locker or storage setup yet.
- Please don't leave personal items, fabric, or work-in-progress lying around unattended.
- We can't take responsibility for anything lost, damaged, or missing from items left behind.
- We're working on a proper storage solution and will let members know once it's ready.
11. Bringing a Guest/Assistant
- Feel free to bring someone along — just let staff know when you arrive.
- Guests are welcome to hang around, but they can't use the machines or tools unless they've paid for their own pass.
- If your guest/assistant will be actively helping with your production — for example, working on a machine — they'll need to pay the full daily pass fee. If they're only helping with non-machine tasks, like ironing or finishing, a half-day pass fee applies instead.
- You're responsible for how your guest behaves while they're with you.
12. Payments & Cancellations
- Passes are paid upfront, before use.
- Need to cancel? Let us know at least 24 hours ahead and we'll credit you toward a future booking. Cancellations after that window won't be refunded.
- If we have to cancel on you — machine issue, space unavailable, whatever it is — you'll get a full refund, or first priority on a new slot. Your call.
- Spot a billing issue? Flag it within 5 days and we'll get it sorted.
13. If Equipment Gets Damaged
- If something breaks because of misuse or carelessness, the member responsible will be asked to cover the repair.
- Normal wear and tear isn't on you — that's on us to maintain.
- If damage happens, we'll look into it, explain what we found, and let you know the cost in writing. If you don't agree, you've got 5 days to raise it with us before anything is settled.
14. Health & Safety, Briefly
- No smoking inside the space.
- Keep food and drinks away from machines and fabric.
- Hurt yourself, even slightly? Tell a staff member right away.
- Exits should always stay clear — no exceptions.
15. If Something Goes Wrong
We'd rather sort things out than come down hard. Here's generally how we handle it:
| Step | What Happens |
|---|
| First time | A friendly reminder |
| It happens again | A written warning |
| Still going on | Temporary suspension |
| Serious or repeated issue | Membership ends |
If your access is ever suspended, we'll tell you exactly why — and you're always welcome to talk it through with us.
16. What's Coming — Community Programs
We're building out community programs — workshops, masterclasses, networking sessions — to grow alongside studio access. Members will be the first to hear when these launch.
17. Our WhatsApp Community
If you're part of our WhatsApp community, a few simple expectations apply, on top of the general respect outlined in Section 8:
- Keep it respectful — same standard as in the space itself.
- Keep information clear and accurate — if you're sharing something, make sure it's correct.
- Keep it relevant — the group is for community and growth: things like opportunities, questions, collaboration, and support for fellow makers. It's not a space for politics or unrelated debate.
If conduct in the group becomes a repeated issue, the same escalation approach in Section 15 applies.
18. What You Can Expect From Us
- Working machines, a clean space, and a setup that's ready when you arrive.
- Honest communication if something's not working or needs to change.
- Fair treatment if a disagreement ever comes up.
- A few days' notice if these terms ever change in a way that affects you.
By booking a pass at Sewmakers Hub, you're agreeing to these terms.
